Alexander Hiermann

Software Development Engineer at NTS. I put network engineering and software development in the same room — and automate the infrastructure I was trained to build by hand.

About

Five years of information technology at HTL Rennweg, the last two focused entirely on network engineering — routing, switching, and the discipline of drawing a topology before touching a cable. Then a diploma thesis that turned that network into data, and a job where I write the software that operates it.

That combination is the point. Plenty of people can build a network, and plenty can write a service. The interesting work sits between the two: turning an SNMP walk into a dashboard a manager can act on, or replacing a runbook full of manual SSH commands with something that runs unattended and says so when it fails. Infrastructure only one person understands is a liability — making it legible, in code and in Git, is what I do.
